North East resident Heather Rodriguez, 31, has died following a crash on Monday, May 22 in Newark, with a dump truck loaded with gravel stone on Pulaski Highway, according to Delaware State Police.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning, a Peterbilt truck being driven by a 59-year-old Colora man was waiting at a traffic light in the right eastbound lane of the highway, investigators said.

Rodriguez was driving a Hyundai Sonata, failed to slow down for unknown reasons, and drove into the back of the truck.

She was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation, where she later died from her injuries sustained in the crash.

Following her death, there was a quick outcry by friends and family who are mourning Rodriguez's death.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit as of Wednesday, May 24.
